Airbnb

Brief, design process, aproach

Design a new experience for Airbnb users focused on itineraries recommended by friends and influencers, to increase customer engagement and bookings on the platform.

My process:

Analyzing the problem, asking questions, assessing and understanding the audience before undertaking any visual work is crucial to a successful outcome.

End-user goals, Key points that represent the core objectives and desired outcomes:

  • Efficient Trip Planning

  • Personalized Recommendations

  • Seamless Booking Process

  • Quality and Trust

  • Engaging and Immersive Experience

  • Convenient Trip Management

  • Collaborative Planning and Social Interaction

Audience, Different categories of audiences can be found. I selected two high-level ones:

  • Solo Travelers

  • Social Travelers and Cultural Enthusiasts

User tasks, Regarding my study, these are the key tasks users can do:

  • Discover and Explore Destinations

  • Find Personalized Itineraries

  • Customize Itineraries

  • View Accommodation Options

  • Explore & Book Accommodations

  • Stay Informed about Travel Conditions

User's priorities, To plan a trip with a curated travel itinerary the user needs the following:

  • Find places to visit (Where to go)

  • Collect information (What to do)

  • Travel dates (Days to stay and When to go)

  • Book accommodations (Where to stay)

User's paint points, What issues are addressing our users?

  • Complex Trip Planning

  • Lack of Personalization

  • Limited Visibility of Options

  • Booking Friction

  • Quality and Trust Concerns

  • Engagement and Interaction

  • Competitive Offerings

  • External Factors

About my assumptions

I conducted a “quick and dirty” research process, gathering data from various online sources including reports, user feedback, simple competitive analysis with direct competitors, and current solutions to understand how trip planning and itinerary management are being addressed including a visual exploration.
if I had more time, I would do more user research using different methods such as direct interviews, and surveys with the most important audience category.
